Experience the best fly fishing Wyoming has to offer with one of our experienced guides. Lander, Wyoming is centrally located to offer anglers access to a plethora of great trout fishing. This includes two great tailwater fisheries – The Green River flowing through Seedskadee National Wildlife Refuge, the Bighorn River, private ranch water, mountain streams and high mountain lakes. Whether you are new to the sport or a seasoned angler our Wyoming Fly Fishing guides can deliver a world class fly fishing experience. 

Seeskadee National Wildlife Refuge – Green River

Other waters guided by Wind River Troutfitters include the Big Horn River at Thermopolis, Wyoming, and several small streams in and around the Lander, WY area. The Big Horn is particularly advantageous in Spring, and late Fall, the streams around Lander are great from July through mid-October.

Bighorn River Thermopolis, Wyoming

The Bighorn River in Wyoming offers abundant populations of Brown, Rainbow and cutthroat trout. This tailwater fishery fed by the fertile waters of Boysen reservoir produce ideal conditions for an aquatic biomass that produces high numbers of fish per mile. We guide the Bighorn River in Thermopolis, Wyoming year round. Best times are march through June and September – November. A drift boat is utilized to fish the best the many stretches of the Bighorn River. 

Recommended Gear

Your trip with Wind River Troutfitters includes rod, reels and flies. However, we encourage clients to use their own equipment if possible, because of the familiarity with it. Guides will tell you if your equipment is satisfactory.

The following gear list is what we highly suggest that clients bring with them on every trip:

Guided Trip Information and policies


A 50% pre-tax deposit is required on all reservations at the time of booking. The remaining balance of any trip reservation must be paid in full within 14 days of the trip date reserved.

Any reservation made within 7 days of the trip will be charged the full value of the trip at the time of reservation - not including any guide gratuities.

Rates - Guide Fly Fishing

Permitted Waters:

Bighorn River $500/full day (2 anglers

Seedskadee National Wildlife Refuge/Green River $650/full day (2 anglers)

Private Waters:

$250/half day* (per person max 3 people)

$350/full day* (per person)(max 3 people)

*Additional rod fees may be required as required by the private


Walk and Wade - Lander area:

$250 half day (per person)(max 3 people)

$350 full day (per person)(max 3 people)

Note: All float trips are done out of 16-foot drift boats (low profile) and will hold 2 anglers and 1 guide. We cannot accommodate a 3rd person without adding an additional boat and guide.

Note: All full day trips include beverages (non-alcoholic), snacks, lunch. Rods, reels can be provided at no charge for use during the day. Note: Stated trip rates do not include State of Wyoming Fishing Permit or any sales tax if applicable. Fishing licenses can be purchased at the shop or online through the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. These must be on your person during the trip.

Gratuity Guidelines:

Guide and other gratuities are not included in the price of the trip. On average, gratuities average 15% to 20% of the trip value for the services provided. Remember, guides work their tails off to provide an enjoyable day on the water so please reward them for their efforts, experience and talents, 


Guided trips with Wind River Outdoor Company are conducted by our sister company - Wind River Troutfitters. Wyoming waters and weather are unpredictable but guided trips are seldom canceled unless the weather or conditions are deemed unsafe for the customer and/or our staff. Both Wind River Troutfitters & Wind River Outdoor Company (booking agent) reserves the right to cancel the trip for any reason should the conditions be deemed dangerous or at risk. If Wind River Troutfitters or Wind River Outdoor Company (booking agent) cancel a trip prior to it occurring due to hazardous conditions then you will receive a full refund of the amount due (less 5% processing for credit cards) or you may wish to apply it towards a rebooking at a later date. Should a trip be canceled during the day of the trip due to conditions, weather, equipment, or other reason, Wind River Troutfitters will consider the trip as complete and no refund will be given. It is strongly recommended that anyone booking a trip also purchase travel and medical extraction insurance from a reputable company for additional protections against trip cancellations and injuries. If you need to purchase this type of insurance we highly recommend the following:

Please note, guide schedules are very tight and openings on our permitted waters are filled months, if not a year, in advance. Because of this, we have to protect our staff and business

because canceling a trip short notice generally means that slot cannot be rebooked. Exceptions to this cancellation policy will not be granted under any circumstance. It is highly encouraged that all clients wishing to book a trip also purchase trip insurance should issue arise as stated above. Should a customer need to cancel a trip then the following chart will

apply as to what portion of the trip deposit and full payment shall be refunded.

Cancelation schedule

Any trip canceled 30 days (including the day of the trip) or more before the scheduled booking date will be fully refunded less 5% for processing fees on credit cards.

Any trip canceled 30 days or less (including the day of the trip) will have all deposits and any other payments forfeited in full.


"No shows" or failure to show up for a booked trip within 1 hour of the agreed-upon time will deem the trip canceled the day of, and no refund will be given on either the deposit or balance of the trip. Furthermore, the canceling party will incur a charge of 15% of the trip total as gratuity payable to the scheduled guide. This fee will be charged to the card on file. 

All cancellations must be done via email for confirmation of date and time. Canceling by phone is not permitted and will not be recognized as a valid cancellation unless we return an email showing date and time stamp information. All cancellations must be emailed to
